Raj Jhaveri is a technologist, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and in his earlier days, a former TV Host for Sony Entertainment Television and UrbanAsian.com. He is known for his deep knowledge of emerging technology and unique ways of charitable fundraising through entertainment and his ventures have been featured in multiple media outlets such as Entrepreneur Magazine, TechCrunch, Yahoo Finance, Time, MTV, Vice Magazine – Motherboard, Wall Street Journal, Medium, Motley Fool, MedCity News, and MedCrunch.
By day, Raj is an investor, technologist, and strategist in the Digital Health, Medical, and Biotechnology Industries, as well as in the Clean Energy sector more particularly in Electric Vehicle Charging infrastructure. He obtained his Bachelor’s at The Ohio State University and continued his graduate studies at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has also obtained his Executive MBA from The Wharton School.
His entrepreneurial career started with co-founding Manethryn Technology, Inc. and assisted in launching Fermentöme, Inc.
Raj was a partner and founder at The Catalan Group, a strategy consulting firm based in Manhattan, New York, which worked with Bio-Reference Laboratories (GeneDx), Sage Science, Bio-Genex, Pfizer, Abpro Labs, Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Genentech, and the Department of Defense. He later successfully founded and launched Canopy Apps, a company that focuses on medical translation services and education. Canopy’s popular medical translator mobile app currently has over 300,000 medical providers using it.
He was also the Los Angeles Director for The Knowledge Society, a global community and a human accelerator program of the world’s most curious, driven, and ambitious people that want to make an impact, and later became an Adjunct Professor at UCLA Anderson School of Management.
Raj has also played a role as an advisor, founding member, investor, or the Chief Technology Officer/Chief Operating Officer at multiple companies such as Notch, Safe Health, Face2Face Health, ScoutDay, Opu Labs, VX Partners, Convey Clothing, EV Connect, Zoom Video, Pinterest, Chewy.com, Slack, Impossible Foods, 23andMe, Impossible Foods, Simple Contacts, and many more. He was previously an in-house mentor at Techstars, an industry consultant for General Catalyst Partners in regards to their healthcare investments, a technology consultant for Inner Circle Sports, and an advisor for IBM Watson Health’s Oncology Project.
In his spare time, he partakes in the fashion, film, music, and dance industry, and enjoys being a true “Curious George” exploring anything that is new and intriguing, hence his former social media persona as “The Urban Nerd.” This allowed him to become the brand ambassador for a rising fashion brand, Convey.
From 2008 to 2017, Raj was also known for hosting The Annual Aquarius Charity Affair, an annual free red carpet event held in January/February, which has attracted thousands of people and raised over $50,000 worth of funds for multiple charities such as The Childhood Leukemia Foundation, Action Against Hunger, American Diabetes Association, and Charity Water. He later founded The Jhaveri Foundation, a private non-profit family foundation, where it actively funds initiatives in education, healthcare, and basic life necessities for underprivileged communities around the world.
He has been actively seen speaking at conferences, such as SXSW, Sundance Film Festival, and NJ Tech Council’s Tech Day, in regard to Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain in Healthcare. He has also spoken on clean energy topics such as Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure and energy load management at conferences such as Charge Expo, ATE, ACT Expo, and EUEC.
